Margaret F. MacDonald, 67, of North Syracuse, NY, died December 24 at Carlton Willard Village in Bedford, MA. Margaret was born in Seneca Falls, NY, in 1941, the daughter of John and Emily Fraser. She graduated from Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls, NY, and received her bachelor and master degrees in music from Nazareth College, Rochester, and Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY, respectively. Margaret devoted her life work to children's music education and music awareness at Bear Road Elementary School from 1963 to 1999 and into her retirement. Every year she traveled statewide to bring the best music programs to the school. During her tenure as music teacher at Bear Road, Margaret directed annual holiday and spring musicals. She never repeated a performance and hers was an inclusive policy; she would amend the program so that anyone who wanted to participate, could. Margaret was held in high esteem by her peers for her work that gave children a voice, a role and often a higher self-esteem. During her retirement, she substitute taught in elementary schools throughout the North Syracuse School District and actively coordinated the hiring and management of visiting performing artists to Bear Road Elementary School. Margaret was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in North Syracuse. She cantored for many years and often participated in additional church music activities. She was considered by her peers to be one of the best bridge and golf players in the local leagues to which she belonged. Margaret enjoyed creating beautiful gardens at her home. She was a season ticket holder to Syracuse Pops, Syracuse Stage and Broadway Visiting Artists and coordinated groups of her peers to attend as well. She enjoyed traveling with her family and groups throughout Europe, North America and the Pacific Islands.
